About the Role
An opportunity is available for a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join the practice on a full-time basis. The role requires a strong understanding of Australian accounting and taxation principles and involves providing accounting, taxation, compliance, bookkeeping, and client support services across a diverse range of client engagements.
The successful candidate will work closely with directors and clients while assisting with financial reporting, taxation compliance, payroll, bookkeeping, ASIC compliance, and business advisory support activities. This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical capability, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines within a professional accounting practice environment.
This is a full-time position requiring 38 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Part 1 – Financial Reporting and Accounting Services:
- Prepare financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders, and other business entities in accordance with applicable accounting standards and client requirements.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure financial information is properly recorded, reconciled, and maintained.
- Prepare accounting workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to facilitate financial reporting and compliance obligations.
- Review financial transactions and accounting records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting requirements.
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes and reporting activities.
Part 2 – Taxation Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
- Prepare individual, company, trust, and partnership income tax returns in accordance with Australian taxation legislation.
- Assist with BAS, GST, PAYG, and other taxation compliance obligations for a diverse client base.
- Maintain compliance with Australian taxation requirements and regulatory obligations.
- Assist in researching taxation matters and supporting directors with taxation-related advisory services.
- Liaise with clients regarding taxation information and documentation requirements.
Part 3 – Bookkeeping, Payroll and Client Accounting Services:
- Perform bookkeeping services including bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Process payroll functions and maintain payroll records in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Assist clients with accounting software management and financial record maintenance.
- Prepare regular management reports and supporting financial information where required.
- Ensure accounting records and client files are maintained accurately and efficiently.
Part 4 – Corporate Compliance and Business Support:
- Assist with ASIC compliance obligations and company secretarial matters for corporate clients.
- Prepare and maintain statutory records and corporate compliance documentation.
- Support directors in delivering accounting, taxation, and compliance services to clients.
- Assist with business advisory engagements and financial analysis activities where required.
- Contribute to maintaining professional service standards and client satisfaction outcomes.
Part 5 – Client Liaison and Professional Services:
- Communicate with clients regarding accounting, taxation, bookkeeping, and compliance matters.
- Respond to client enquiries and coordinate requests for financial information and supporting documentation.
- Build and maintain professional client relationships through effective communication and service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with directors and team members to ensure timely completion of client engagements.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum one year of relevant accounting experience within an accounting practice, professional services environment, or similar accounting role.
- Strong understanding of Australian taxation legislation, accounting principles, and financial reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing financial statements, taxation returns, and accounting workpapers.
- Experience using accounting software including Xero, MYOB, HandiSoft, or similar accounting platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet competing deadlines.

- Mandarin Chinese language skills are highly desirable due to the significant proportion of Mandarin-speaking clients serviced by the business.
