Guang Yu 2009 Pty Ltd, trading as Gooda Creek Mushrooms, is a family-owned and modernised mushroom farm located in Murrumbateman, NSW. Operating across 40 acres with more than 43,040 square feet of production area, the business grows a wide range of Australian-grown fresh exotic mushrooms, including Shiitake, Shimeji, Enoki, King Brown, Oysters, Chestnuts and Woodear varieties.
Since commencing production in 2014, the business has grown to become one of the main exotic mushroom suppliers in the Australian market, supplying Coles, Costco and Woolworths nationwide, as well as local customers in the Canberra region including Parliament House, fresh food markets and restaurants. The business holds Freshcare, SMETA/Sedex and HARPS certification and places strong emphasis on food safety, quality and supplier code of conduct.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Gooda Creek Mushrooms is seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper to join its Finance/Admin team, working alongside the Office Administrator and reporting to the Business Manager, and liaising closely with the contracted Accountant and General Manager.
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate day-to-day financial records for the farm, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll processing and support for statutory reporting obligations. The role will support the smooth financial operation of a busy, regional agricultural production business supplying major national retailers.
The successful candidate must be willing to live in the designated regional/rural area of Murrumbateman, NSW, noting that this location offers limited activities and amenities outside of standard working hours.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Record-Keeping and Transactions:
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are correctly recorded and coded.
- Perform regular bank, credit card and supplier account reconciliations.
- Maintain organised and up-to-date financial records, invoices and supporting documentation.
- Monitor day-to-day cash transactions and petty cash records.
Payroll and Statutory Compliance:
- Process weekly or fortnightly payroll for farm and administrative staff, including entitlements, superannuation and leave records.
- Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS and PAYG withholding in consultation with the external Accountant.
- Maintain accurate records to support GST, superannuation guarantee and other statutory obligations.
- Assist with workers' compensation, payroll tax and other regulatory reporting requirements as required.
Supplier, Customer and Production Cost Tracking:
- Process supplier invoices relating to mushroom production inputs, packaging, freight and farm consumables.
- Reconcile sales and remittance records against retail customers, including Coles, Costco and Woolworths accounts.
- Track production-related costs and assist management with basic cost reporting for the mushroom growing and packing operation.
- Follow up outstanding customer payments and supplier queries as required.
Reporting and Support to Management:
- Prepare routine financial summaries and reports for the Business Manager and General Manager.
- Liaise with the contracted Accountant to support month-end and year-end financial processes.
- Assist with budgeting and cash-flow monitoring tasks as directed.
- Support internal and external audits, certification renewals and compliance reviews by providing accurate financial documentation.
Systems and Office Support:
- Maintain and update bookkeeping software and digital filing systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes and administrative efficiency.
- Provide general financial administration support to the Office Admin and wider Finance/Admin team.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in handling sensitive financial and payroll information.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Certificate II in Bookkeeping, Accounting or a related discipline or reasonable employment experience (minimum); a Diploma in Accounting or Bookkeeping is preferred.
- Relevant experience in a bookkeeping, accounts or financial administration role.
- Working knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting software (e.g. Xero, MYOB or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Sound understanding of accounts payable/receivable, payroll and BAS/GST processes.
- High level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
- Ability and willingness to reside in the designated regional/rural area of Murrumbateman, NSW, noting the limited availability of activities and amenities outside of working hours.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Strong bookkeeping and financial record-keeping skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Sound understanding of payroll, BAS/GST and general statutory bookkeeping requirements.
- Good working knowledge of bookkeeping software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a regional agricultural business.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with management, the contracted Accountant and suppliers.
- High level of integrity, reliability and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to the requirements of a busy, regional farm operation.
