ABOUT THE ROLE
CarMates (AUS) is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to oversee the financial management and reporting functions of the business.
The Finance Manager will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, transaction reconciliation, financial controls, statutory compliance and commercial analysis. The role will provide management with accurate financial information and practical financial insights to support business performance and operational decision-making.
The successful candidate will work closely with management, operational personnel, external accountants and other stakeholders to maintain effective financial systems and ensure the financial affairs of the business are accurately managed.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Financial Management and Reporting
  1. Manage day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations and transaction processing.
  2. Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, financial summaries and other reports for management review.
  3. Monitor revenue, expenditure, transaction income, operating costs and financial performance across the business.
  4. Review financial records and transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness and appropriate supporting documentation.
  5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with applicable accounting requirements.
 
Budgeting, Forecasting and Cash Flow
  1. Prepare and monitor annual budgets, financial forecasts and cash-flow projections in consultation with management.
  2. Monitor cash flow, working capital, receivables, payables and expenditure to support the business's ongoing financial requirements.
  3. Conduct budget-to-actual analysis and investigate material financial variances.
  4. Identify opportunities for improved cost control, financial efficiency and resource allocation.
  5. Provide financial information and forecasting to assist management with business planning and operational decisions.
 
Automotive Marketplace and Commercial Analysis
  1. Monitor and analyse financial activity associated with vehicle listings, sales transactions, dealer and seller activities and related marketplace services.
  2. Analyse revenue streams, commissions, transaction costs, operating expenses and margins to assess business profitability.
  3. Prepare financial analysis and reporting to assist management in evaluating vehicle-related commercial activities and business performance.
  4. Assist with financial modelling and analysis of pricing, expenditure, commercial arrangements and proposed business initiatives.
  5. Identify financial trends, risks and opportunities and provide commercially relevant recommendations to management.
 
Accounting, Compliance and Financial Controls
  1. Oversee accounting processes and ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded and appropriately reconciled.
  2. Coordinate GST, BAS, payroll-related financial processes and other statutory accounting requirements.
  3. Liaise with external accountants, tax advisers, auditors and other professional stakeholders as required.
  4. Establish, review and maintain appropriate financial controls, policies and accounting procedures.
  5. Identify financial control weaknesses, discrepancies and potential risks and recommend appropriate corrective action.
 
Management Support and Financial Advisory
  1. Provide management with timely financial information and analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  2. Prepare financial reports, forecasts and analytical information for management meetings and business reviews.
  3. Evaluate the financial implications of proposed expenditure, operational changes and commercial initiatives.
  4. Assist management in monitoring business performance against financial objectives and identifying areas requiring improvement.
  5. Provide practical financial advice regarding cost management, profitability, cash flow and financial performance.
 
Systems, Processes and Continuous Improvement
  1. Review and improve accounting procedures, financial reporting processes and internal financial controls.
  2. Assist with implementation and optimisation of accounting and financial management systems.
  3. Develop efficient processes for financial data collection, reconciliation, reporting and analysis.
  4. Maintain appropriate financial documentation and reporting procedures to support auditability and compliance.
  5. Contribute to continuous improvement of the business's financial management practices and reporting capabilities.
 
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business or a closely related discipline.
  2. Minimum one (1) year of relevant full-time professional experience in finance, accounting, financial management or a closely related field.
  3. Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management.
  4. Sound knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls and statutory financial requirements.
  5. Experience with accounting software and financial management systems.
  6. Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including financial analysis, formulas, reporting and data management.
  7. Ability to analyse financial information and provide practical commercial recommendations.
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
