ABOUT THE ROLE

The Motor Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining passenger and light commercial vehicles. The role involves advanced fault diagnosis, mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, and suspension, steering, braking, wheel alignment, and tyre-related mechanical work within a modern workshop environment.

Structured on-the-job training and ongoing professional development will be provided to support continued technical development and operational excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADVANCED VEHICLE DIAGNOSTICS AND FAULT ANALYSIS:

Diagnose complex mechanical, engine, transmission, steering, suspension, braking, and associated vehicle system faults using advanced diagnostic equipment.
Conduct comprehensive inspections to identify mechanical defects, component wear, and performance deficiencies.
Interpret diagnostic data, workshop manuals, and manufacturer specifications to determine appropriate repair methodologies.
Assess vehicle performance and recommend suitable repair or replacement solutions.
Perform post-repair testing to verify fault rectification and operational performance.

MECHANICAL REPAIRS AND COMPONENT OVERHAUL:

Repair, overhaul, replace, and adjust engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, braking, drivetrain, and associated mechanical components.
Dismantle, inspect, and reassemble mechanical assemblies using specialised workshop equipment and manufacturer procedures.
Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Replace defective or worn components to restore vehicle safety, reliability, and performance.
Complete final inspections and operational testing prior to vehicle release.

TYRE, WHEEL, SUSPENSION AND STEERING SYSTEMS:

Diagnose suspension, steering, wheel alignment, and tyre-related mechanical issues affecting vehicle handling and safety.
Perform precision wheel alignments and suspension adjustments using specialised alignment equipment.
Inspect tyre wear patterns and identify underlying mechanical defects contributing to abnormal wear.
Install, inspect, and maintain tyre and wheel assemblies where associated mechanical work is required.
Recommend appropriate repair, replacement, or maintenance solutions to optimise vehicle performance.

WORKSHOP OPERATIONS AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT:

Maintain accurate repair records, inspection reports, and workshop documentation.
Coordinate repair activities to meet workshop schedules and customer service requirements.
Liaise with workshop supervisors and team members regarding technical issues and repair priorities.
Maintain workshop equipment, diagnostic systems, and specialised tools in safe working condition.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives supporting workshop productivity and service quality.

WORKPLACE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE:

Comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and workshop operating procedures at all times.
Ensure repairs are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, Australian Design Rules, and industry standards.
Handle automotive fluids, lubricants, and hazardous materials in accordance with workplace and environmental requirements.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment throughout all repair activities.
Promote professional standards, quality workmanship, and safe work practices across all workshop operations.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

Relevant trade qualification in Automotive Mechanical Technology or a related automotive field.
Minimum one (1) year of relevant full-time experience as a Motor Mechanic.
Demonstrated experience diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining passenger or light commercial vehicles.
Sound knowledge of engine, transmission, steering, suspension, braking, and electronic diagnostic systems.
Ability to interpret technical manuals and manufacturer specifications and work with minimal supervision.
Current driver's licence preferred.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Structured on-the-job training will be provided to support continued development in advanced diagnostics, emerging automotive technologies, manufacturer servicing procedures, and specialised suspension, steering, braking, and wheel alignment systems. Candidates demonstrating strong technical capability and reliability will be provided opportunities for broader exposure across complex mechanical repairs and workshop operations.
