ABOUT THE ROLE:

An opportunity exists for a qualified and experienced Motor Mechanic (ANZSCO 321211) to join the Ozzy Tyres team on a full-time basis.

The role involves diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining a range of passenger vehicles, SUVs, 4WDs, performance vehicles, and light commercial vehicles. The successful candidate will undertake mechanical inspections and repairs, with particular exposure to suspension, steering, braking, wheel alignment, tyre-related mechanical issues, and general vehicle servicing.

The position is suited to a practical and technically capable mechanic who can work effectively in a busy automotive environment and maintain a strong focus on vehicle safety, quality workmanship, and customer service.

Structured on-the-job training and ongoing development will be available to support the successful candidate in developing their technical skills and gaining further exposure to the business's tyre, wheel, suspension, and vehicle servicing operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

VEHICLE DIAGNOSTICS AND INSPECTION:

Diagnose mechanical and associated vehicle faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
Conduct vehicle inspections to identify mechanical defects, component wear, and safety issues.
Interpret diagnostic information, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications when assessing vehicle faults.
Identify appropriate repair, replacement, servicing, and maintenance requirements.
Conduct post-repair inspections and testing to confirm that identified faults have been rectified.

MECHANICAL SERVICING AND REPAIRS:

Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance on passenger vehicles, SUVs, 4WDs, performance vehicles, and light commercial vehicles.
Repair, replace, adjust, and maintain engines, braking systems, steering systems, suspension components, drivetrain components, and other mechanical systems.
Inspect and replace worn or defective mechanical components.
Perform mechanical repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and established workshop procedures.
Complete final checks to ensure vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and operating correctly before release.

TYRE, WHEEL, SUSPENSION AND STEERING SERVICES:

Inspect and diagnose tyre, wheel, suspension, and steering issues affecting vehicle safety, handling, and performance.
Perform wheel balancing and wheel alignment procedures using appropriate workshop equipment.
Inspect tyre wear and identify mechanical or alignment issues contributing to abnormal wear.
Remove, install, inspect, and maintain tyre and wheel assemblies.
Undertake suspension inspections, repairs, component replacement, and adjustments where required.
Provide practical technical input regarding tyre, wheel, suspension, and vehicle fitment requirements.

WORKSHOP OPERATIONS:

Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records.
Work efficiently to meet workshop schedules and customer service requirements.
Liaise with other workshop personnel regarding repair requirements and vehicle priorities.
Safely operate mechanical, diagnostic, wheel alignment, tyre, and workshop equipment.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and serviceable condition.
Assist with maintaining an organised, efficient, and professional workshop environment.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT:

Identify and communicate vehicle repair and maintenance requirements clearly.
Provide practical technical information regarding vehicle servicing, tyres, wheels, suspension, and related mechanical issues.
Maintain professional interactions with customers and other team members.
Support the business's commitment to providing reliable automotive solutions and quality workmanship.
Contribute to a positive customer experience through efficient and professional service.

WORKPLACE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE:

Comply with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and workshop procedures.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment and workshop safety equipment.
Handle automotive fluids, lubricants, tyres, tools, and mechanical equipment safely.
Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment.
Ensure mechanical work is completed with appropriate regard to vehicle safety and applicable industry requirements.
Report hazards, equipment faults, and safety concerns promptly.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology or a closely related automotive trade qualification.
Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic.
Demonstrated experience in vehicle servicing, mechanical repairs, inspections, and fault diagnosis.
Sound knowledge of automotive mechanical systems, including braking, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and associated components.
Experience with tyre, wheel, suspension, and/or wheel alignment services will be highly regarded.
Ability to use mechanical and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
Ability to interpret technical information and manufacturer specifications.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team.
A current driver's licence will be highly regarded.
Candidates with suitable Australian work rights are preferred.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

On-the-job training will be available to support the successful candidate’s technical development across vehicle diagnostics, servicing, suspension and steering systems, wheel alignment, tyre and wheel fitment, and other workshop operations.
